The logo and the awards

THE LOGO OF THE PORRETTA CINEMA ASSOCIATION

The logo of the Porretta Cinema Cultural Association, established in 2012, originates from the heraldic symbol of Porretta Terme, the sick ox that, according to mediaeval legend, was set free by its owner and went to drink at one of the thermal springs, returning completely cured and giving rise to the fame of the city’s curative and medicinal waters.

The choice of the three RGB primary colours evokes the concept of cinema projection, while the typography combines a more coy font with a more solid, almost granite-hard one, symbolising the harmonious coexistence of the different souls of cinema: one lighter and made up of pure entertainment, the other more committed and characterised by deep socio-cultural implications.

The logo was designed by Alessandro Tunno, from the Mad Factory studio in Milan.

THE “TRIBUTO AL REGISTA”
[TRIBUTE TO THE DIRECTOR] AWARD

The birth of the cultural association Porretta Cinema also saw the creation of the award dedicated to the guest Director in 2014. The design of the trophy is inspired by the association’s logo, and thus depicts the ox drinking from the thermal waters. The three colours used in the logo take shape through the striking overlapping of different metal foils on three levels.

The brass foil award bears the name of the director and the dates of the Festival. The idea is developed from a sketch on paper, the computer transposition of which is then carved on metal using a machine. The pieces are composed separately; in order to recreate the three tones, the choice was made to use shiny light gold for the ox in the foreground, and a silver and copper lamination for the other two. The components are assembled by hand to arrive at the finished model.

The work was created by Elena Brasa, an artist with roots in Porretta, who graduated in Accessory Design and Goldsmithing at the University of Florence.

THE NATIONAL ELIO PETRI AWARD

THE NATIONAL ELIO PETRI AWARD

Produced by the DEMM factory in Porretta Terme, the prize being awarded is a tribute to the historic episode in which Elio Petri and Gian Maria Volonté, in Porretta for “La classe operaia va in paradiso” (The Working Class Goes to Heaven), faced with the audience’s outcry after the screening, left the Kursaal Cinema in protest and took part in a debate organised by the DEMM workers themselves. Of a shape reminiscent of a Christmas tree, it is inspired by the gift Petri received from the workers of Ascensori Falconi in Novara, where he had shot the film that was later premiered at the Mostra del Cinema Libero [Free Film Exhbition] in Porretta Terme.
